Jaap Barneveld was appointed extraordinary Professor of Legal Aspects of Corporate Transactions at the University of Groningen on 1 July 2021.
Jaap will teach corporate law and mergers and acquisitions. His research will address the protection of minority shareholders, creditors and other stakeholders in corporate transactions, and it will form part of the wider "Protecting European Citizens and Market Participants" research programme . Jaap will also join the Institute for Corporate Law (IVO), the distinguished scientific study centre in the field of corporate and securities law, which is a joint collaboration by the University of Groningen and the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Jaap states, "I am honoured to be appointed professor by the University of Groningen, given its strong reputation in the field of corporate law. I am confident that the cross-fertilisation between my daily practice at De Brauw and these academic activities will benefit all involved."
In 2014, Jaap obtained his PhD (cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam. He is the author of numerous publications on corporate law and insolvency law, and a regular speaker at conferences.
